As Real Madrid kickstart their planning for the season ahead, there are a number of players whose continuity at Santiago Bernabeu remain uncertain.

Many players could indeed leave as Real Madrid look to strengthen the ranks in certain areas of the pitch. One of those problem areas could be the fullback spot, with the club particularly keen on signing a new right-back.

Lucas playing his last season at Real Madrid

This has led to question marks over Lucas Vazquez’s future at the Bernabeu, with Diario AS suggesting that the veteran could be playing his last season at the club.

The 33-year-old Galician, who has been with Los Blancos for over a decade, may be entering his final months at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Dani Carvajal set to return from a serious knee injury and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly arriving on a free transfer, Vazquez’s role in the squad is under threat.

The arrival of Alexander-Arnold is expected to bring competition for Carvajal, while Vazquez faces an uphill battle to convince the club to offer him a contract extension.

Despite his age, Vázquez remains determined to fight for his place. His versatility, allowing him to play as both a winger and a full-back, has been a valuable asset for multiple Madrid managers.

However, with younger and more specialized players coming in, his playing time could be significantly reduced.

Keeping that in mind, Vazquez will be determined to end the season on a high note, knowing it could help make a case for Real Madrid to hand him a contract renewal.

Should he leave at the end of the season, though, the Real Madrid veteran will have the option to play either in Saudi Arabia or join the MLS, like many Real Madrid stars of the past.
