Although they themselves were not playing last night, FC Barcelona would still have been keeping a close eye on the football taking place last night, as two of the teams that can have a significant impact on how they end this season were in action.
One of these teams was Real Madrid, whom the Blaugranes are set to face in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday, and then again on May 11th in a match that can turn out to be decisive for the La Liga race. The Merengues won their match 0-1 over Getafe to remain four points behind the Catalans on the league table.
The second team was Inter Milan, who are the opponents for Barcelona in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League.
As opposed to Real Madrid, the Italians had a night to forget, as they were defeated 3-0 by their cross-town rivals AC Milan in the second leg of the semi-final of the Coppa Italia.
This was a significant blow for the Nerazzurri, who were themselves aiming to win a treble only a few days ago. However, this loss, which came only a few days after their league loss to Bologna and allowed Napoli to equal their points tally in Serie A with only 5 matches to go, ended their cup campaign.
Furthermore, Inter also have a very difficult UCL tie awaiting them as they face Barcelona and would have wanted to go into this game in the best of form.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, following this latest defeat, the Italian coach, Simone Inzaghi, admitted that he was worried about his team:
“I’m worried that this might not be enough — we’re mentally exhausted.”
On the other hand, Barcelona themselves got a 1-0 win over Mallorca in their last game, and Flick was also able to rest some of his regular starters. Thus, the Blaugranes will definitely be going into this semi-final tie in better form, but they also have the Copa del Rey final to play right before this UCL tie.
