The Blades confirmed the news prior to this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Championship fixture against Southampton at Bramall Lane.
The 31-year-old joined Sheffield United last summer after leaving former club Bristol City. Murray has made 12 appearances for The Blades in all competitions in which she has scored one goal.
Murray started her senior playing career with Liverpool where she enjoyed a four-year stay. Short spells with Houston Dash, Kolbotn and FC Austin Elite followed before the defender returned to the English game with Bristol City. Murray spent one successful season with The Robins before moving to Racing Louisville. She then returned to Bristol City last season.
On the international stage. Murray has collected five caps for the Jamaican national team.
When at her best, Murray has been one of the toughest competitors in the women’s game. Her build and physicality has made life extremely difficult for opposition attackers. She has struggled with injuries in the latter years of her career but has never given anything less than 100-percent when on the field of play.
Sheffield United paid tribute to Murray in their final home game of the season this afternoon.
