What to know about Leicester transfer target Oliver Antman

The King Power Club led by Ruud van Nistelrooy has been relegated from the Premier League. "Straight back Down" as the Championship winning shirt ought to say now. With a litany of incredulous and frankly embarassing performances to boot, the Foxes will be hoping for a far easier Championship campaign.

Nevertheless, in the context of an utter rubbish showing, it is certainly time for many players to leave the club and for the board to stand aside or at the very minimum get rid of Jon Rudkin for his mismanagement of transfers and player contracts. This will undoubtedly mean gaps in the squad and coaching which will need filling.

Leicester City's summer dilemma

When the summer transfer market opens, the risk is there that Leicester City lose several key talents. The East Midlands giants should be able to keep Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, but the also might lose Mavididi should a better prospect reveal itself to the winger. In that context, the club are not short of choice: Kasey McAteer, Jordan Ayew, and Bobby De-Cordova Reid are already in the side.

Despite the two experienced players being fine for the most part, neither are inspiring or show flare. That being said, Ayew should stay and did perform pretty well for the most of the season, he just is not the goal scoring, creative winger the Foxes needed when Fatawu was injured. Clearly, Reid ought to leave.

It is also the case there are youth prospects looking to breakout into the senior side. Wanya Marcal-Madivadua has been out on loan, Jake Evans and Jeremy Monga have been awfully impressive, and there remain several other young talents waiting for their chance for the club. There may genuinely not be a gap to fill. However, should there be a gap, the club have identified their replacement.

Oliver Antman apparently. The former FC Nordsjaelland player currently at 'Go Ahead Eagles' in the Dutch Eredivisie. A most interesting link in my opinion, as the player is also a young and highly prolific talent in a tough and progressive football league.

What Antman would offer

The Finnish player has developed into primarily a right winger, although occasionally playing as a second striker or left winger. So, there is versatility clearly on display, and any signing for a forward must be versatile with the current crop of talent already at the club making it difficult to get into the side.

Should Fatawu get injured again or be out for a protracted time, Leicester City need someone who is just as creative and just as dangerous. What made Fatawu dangerous was his pace, explosive acceleration, and his mentality to always challenge and always have a go. Antman hits those marks.

With 14 assists and six goals, that gives the Finnish player 20 goal contributions across 28 matches played. Compared to Leicester this season, that would make him our best player. Antman links up well amazingly with forwards and attacking midfielders, passing between them to create chances for a litany of talents. We can see this by which of their players have more than 10 goals and assists across the season: Antman topping them of course.

So, the Foxes would get a pacy forward, a creative playmaker, and a link between their aggressively dynamic midfield (particularly if they somehow kept Bilal El Khannouss, but Will Alves could take that place) and prolific forwards such as Mavididi and Fatawu. The only catch could be the Finnish talent's likely transfer fee would not be as low as some report. I would expect such an important player to net around £5-10m for the Go Ahead Eagles.
