Mendy is one of a number of players expected to miss the match through injury, along with former Gunner Dani Ceballos, Eder Militao, and Dani Carvajal.

Aurelien Tchouameni is suspended for the first leg, following an accumulation of yellow cards in the previous rounds of competition. He’ll return in the second leg.

Though goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is also technically an injury doubt, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has suggested they’re expecting to have him back.

“Courtois is much better, we think he could be back Tuesday,” Ancelotti said ahead of Real Madrid’s game this weekend.

Though Ancelotti seemed less sure about backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, saying: “Lunin has a small muscle problem. He will test it out.”

Arsenal are no strangers to injury absences in recent months, and the Gunners are expected to be without Gabriel Jesus, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Riccardo Calafiori for Tuesday’s match.

Other than Calafiori, all of the players listed are out for the season. The Italian international is the only one with any small chance of playing in the second leg of the Real Madrid tie.
