Trent Alexander-Arnold was named on the bench by Liverpool manager Arne Slot for their Premier League meeting with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.
The right-back has been sidelined since 11 March when he sustained an injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the Uefa Champions League.
Conor Bradley will start in his position again as Slot picked an unchanged backline for their trip to the midlands.
The Dutchman hinted before the game that Alexander-Arnold may feature this weekend following his layoff, with Bradley unlikely to play the full 90 minutes.
“[He is] not [ready] to start but if things go well today and tomorrow, he might – might – be on the bench,” Slot said. “But definitely not to start because he is out for five-and-a-half weeks and this is today probably his first session with the team.
“It was Wednesday I think he did parts of the team session. So he’s not able to start but hopefully he can be able to join us because for Conor [Bradley], he has been out for a long time so for him to play 90 isn’t easy as well.
There are only two changes to the Liverpool starting lineup that beat West Ham United last week; Dominik Szoboszlai comes in for Curtis Jones while Cody Gakpo replaces Diogo Jota.
Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Bradley, Van Dijk, Konate, Tsimikas; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Gakpo, Diaz.
