Barcelona are evaluating the signing of one of Panama’s brightest football prospects, Edward Cedeno, reports SPORT.

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder joined Tarazona (Primera RFEF) from Potros del Este on loan – a decision that has paid off as he has attracted interest from several Spanish clubs.

Tarazona have an option to make his transfer permanent and as per the report, they plan to activate his purchase clause in June for €350,000, with the intention of immediately selling him.

Cedeno’s next destination could end up being Barcelona. After all, the Catalans have been monitoring him throughout the season, and just two weeks ago, he delivered a standout performance against Barça Atletic.

Who is Edward Cedeno?

Cedeno is a natural pivot who plays in front of the defence, a profile that could fit well with Barcelona’s playing style.

Having come through the ranks at Potros del Este in his homeland of Panama, he had a loan stint at LD Alajuelense in Costa Rica, before arriving at SD Tarazona last summer.

Cedeno has represented Panama at Under-20 and Under-23 levels and has been a key player for Tarazona this season, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the league.

Barcelona want Cedeno for the resere team

At 21 years old, he has significant potential, making him an intriguing prospect for Barcelona.

The Blaugrana are believed to be highly interested in signing Cedeno for next season. The idea would be for him to join the reserve team first, who will lose Pau Prim in the summer.

The plan would be to allow him to adapt to the club’s style and system before assessing whether he can make the jump to the first team.

Barcelona are not the only La Liga club considering a move for the Panamanian midfielder.

However, the Catalan club officials have remained cautious, stating only that they are aware of his talent and have been following his progress closely, as they do with many players in the league. A final decision regarding his signing will be made at the end of the season.
