Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is once again being closely watched by Bayern Munich, according to a report from SPORT.

The German giants are on the lookout for a top-class centre-back this summer, and Araujo has emerged as a prime option for their defensive rebuild.

While Barça are overloaded with centre-backs, Araujo remains a key figure in Hansi Flick’s plans. He is one of the most trusted players in the squad and is seen as a leader in defence.

Barcelona’s cash cow

Despite his importance to the team, the club’s financial troubles may force them to consider offers for players who can bring in a good fee. Araujo fits that profile.

Although the Uruguayan has repeatedly shown his commitment to Barcelona—most recently renewing his contract and turning down other offers—the clause in his contract allows for a possible exit between July 1 and 15.

While the exact terms are private, it is believed the release clause is around €65 million.

That amount is seen as a good deal for clubs looking for a reliable defender, and the fact that his release clause does not require negotiation makes the move even more tempting.

Bayern’s plans could open the door

Bayern are preparing to reshuffle their defence after a difficult season. South Korean defender Kim Min-Jae has not quite lived up to expectations and could be on his way out.

They are expected to receive solid offers for him and would be open to selling in order to make room for someone like Araujo.

Meanwhile, it must be noted that the German club has already studied the possibility of signing Araujo before. Now, they are waiting to see if the player is willing to make a move.

If Araujo decides to stay at Barça, Bayern will step back. But if he is open to a new challenge, the Bundesliga club could push forward with a formal bid. Everything now depends on the defender’s decision in the coming weeks.
