Cameron Carter-Vickers' recent performance against the Rangers drew a ton of criticism. It was probably his worst performance in a Celtic jersey. But then again, that does not mean that the fans would want to see the American leave in the summer. He has been a stalwart at the back for the Hoops since arriving in the summer of 2021, firstly on loan from Tottenham Hotspur before being signed on a permanent basis.
Carter-Vickers has been a regular starter at centre-back throughout his time at Celtic. It is the one beside him that has changed consistently, from Carl Starfelt to Liam Scales and now Auston Trusty.
After four seasons with Celtic, could Carter-Vickers look for a change in scenery in the future? Everton have been linked with the American centre-back in recent times.
But as reported by Football Insider, Celtic are set to block any moves for Carter-Vickers this summer. He remains a crucial part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the future.
That might be the right decision on the part of Celtic. They certainly need to figure their defence out, as they have conceded thrice in three consecutive Glasgow Derbies. But letting their defensive leader leave would not be the answer to their problems.
One would imagine that Celtic would improve defensively next season with the arrival of Kieran Tierney. The Scot has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Hoops already, with his current deal at Arsenal running out in the summer.
A back-four consistently of Carter-Vickers, Tierney, Trusty and Alistair Johnston looks very good on paper. It remains to be seen how they will click on the pitch. That being said, one cannot rule out the possibility of one or more of them leaving the club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
