One Chelsea player is due back in school by midday today after becoming the youngest player to play for the club since 1967.

The news comes after The Blues thrashed Swedish side Djurgarden 4-1 away from home in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final last night in what was a very convincing performance for Enzo Maresca’s side.

Winger Noni Madueke played the first half and then was subbed off, but he grabbed a tidy little goal and had a terrific performance before doing so. His overall effect on the game was great.

Then in the second half Chelsea finished things off with two goals scored by striker Nicolas Jackson, who had just arrived onto the pitch at half time to play the second half of the game.

What a moment for Walsh

Maresca bought on 16-year-old Reggie Walsh for his senior debut and what a moment that was for him – he almost scored with his first touch too!

The BBC report that still of schoolboy age, he is unable to sign a professional contract until his 17th birthday in October.

But Walsh is now Chelsea’s third youngest ever player, behind only midfielder Ian Hamilton and goalkeeper Kingsley Whiffen – who made their debuts in 1967 – having entered the pitch at 3Arena six months and 11 days after his 16th birthday.

He is also due back in school by noon today!

Walsh joined Chelsea at the age of seven and progressed through the age groups at Cobham, having grown up in west London. He has represented England too, from the under-15s through to the under-17s.

Youngster also praised by the boss

Walsh earned some fine praise from the boss after the game, who says the midfielder is perfect for his system.

I suspect this will not be the last we hear of this young rising star and props to Maresca for bringing him on.
