Manchester United’s young striker Chido Obi has been awarded the title “Newcomer of the Year” by Danish publication Bold.
The striker joined the club last summer after leaving Arsenal, where he scored a bucketful of goals at youth level.
Obi originally played for the United academy this season, scoring 14 goals in 15 games. This included a hattrick in the FA Youth Cup versus Chelsea.
Nonetheless, the 17 year old has also broken through into the first team, playing six senior games since making his debut in February.
What’s more, Obi has looked dangerous when given minutes off the bench and almost opened his senior account against Fulham in the FA Cup and also Bournemouth last weekend in the league.
Ruben Amorim will likely heavily rotate his side this weekend to rest key players ahead of the Europa League semi-final second leg next Thursday against Athletic Club. Therefore, Obi could be in line for his first start at senior level this Sunday versus Brentford with Rasmus Hojlund being the club’s only fit first team striker.
His rise has not gone unnoticed in his homeland and he has been given the title of the newcomer of the year by a Danish paper.
The 17 year old shared his success on Instagram and re-posted a message from his sports agency, Elite Project Group, on the victory.
They commented, “congratulations to our client Chido Obi for winning Bold’s Året Komet award for best newcomer!”
The publication Bold justified their decision by stating, “the past year has exceeded all expectations for Chido Obi, who really broke through the sound barrier in Denmark when he made his first appearance in the Premier League against Tottenham on February 16.”
“Therefore, it is no surprise that several central sources in and around the Danish talent community have pointed to the 17-year-old striker as the Comet of the Year in Denmark in 2025.”
The youngster will hope to round off the perfect year by scoring his first senior goal as he will likely get a chance to play significant minutes in all of United’s remaining four league matches.
