Former Roma player Luigi Di Biagio weighed in on Roma’s search for their next head coach a few days before the match against Juventus.
“I always thought that Roma was superior to Bologna, Fiorentina and Lazio,” Di Biagio told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “In terms of team construction, they were right behind the big teams.”
“Ranieri did something incredible: at the beginning of the season something was jammed, but when you work well the qualities come out.”
“Roma is in 6th place and that’s good, considering how the year started. It’s a feat just for what happened in the first few months.”
“Can they reach Top 4? I hope so, but the calendar is complicated and despite a crazy comeback they are still at -4. Juve worries me more than Bologna because they have a new coach and more manageable matches.”
“Sunday will be a fundamental match. I wouldn’t change the formation: Soulé has the right means, Baldanzi is also growing. However, a last ditch effort from Pellegrini is needed, who has disappointed so far. I also expect at least five or six more goals from the midfielders, the ones that Dybala guaranteed.”
“The perfect name to lead Roma next season? Not Ancelotti or Klopp at the moment, but Antonio Conte. Maybe it’s just a dream, but it would be ideal: Roma needs concreteness. Pioli would also be good.”
