Marko Arnautovic will hope to “make amends” to Inter Milan for the heartbreak of his goal for Bologna in the 2021-22 Serie A title race.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
With Marcus Thuram on the sidelines with injury, it will fall to the former West Ham United and Stoke City veteran to lead the line for the Nerazzurri against Bologna.
And the trip to Emilia-Romagna will be a particularly significant one for Arnautovic.
The Austrian spent two seasons playing for Bologna. In fact, it was his time at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara that convinced Inter to sign him in 2023.
Arnautovic had two very strong seasons at Bologna. He was a key player for the Rossoblu for his holdup play and experience, as well as some important goals.
One of the biggest goals that Marko Arnautovic scored for Bologna came, ironically enough, against Inter.

The Rossoblu hosted Inter in Serie A in April of 2022. It was a match that had initially been scheduled for January of that year, but was delayed due to COVID-19 cases.
And it was a fatal match for Inter’s Serie A title hopes.
Inter went into that match chasing city rivals AC Milan by a couple points. But with the trump card of a game in hand, the match against Bologna.
And the Nerazzurri went ahead through an Ivan Perisic goal in the first half.
However, it was Marko Arnautovic who scored the equalizer that broke Inter hearts.
Goalkeeper Andrei Radu’s infamous howler allowed Bologna to complete the comeback.
However, in truth, even without that second goal for the Rossoblu, the result would have meant that Inter would not have had their fate in their hands in the title race.
Milan won all their remaining matches that season, and had the head-to-head advantage over Inter.
Arnautovic will undoubtedly be well aware of how important that goal was for Inter – and not in a positive sense.
Therefore, the 36-year-old will see the significance of another match between Inter and Bologna in April. This time, with him on the other side.
Inter are once again in an intense title race, this time with Napoli. And Arnautovic has the opportunity to contribute to a very different outcome for the Nerazzurri.
