Former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello might be one of Los Blancos’ most respected figures, but when it comes to analysing football, he speaks his mind—regardless of club loyalties.

Speaking at the Laureus Awards, the Italian tactician shared his thoughts on Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, praised their evolution, and gave a bold prediction ahead of Saturday’s Copa del Rey final between the eternal rivals.

Capello impressed by Flick’s Barcelona, but sees a key flaw

When asked about Hansi Flick’s impact at Barcelona, Capello certainly did not hold back his admiration, while also pointing out a glaring weakness.

“He has done a great job as Barça coach because he plays differently,” Capello said.

“He has a different style, he presses a lot and attacks a lot, but he defends badly. But then he recovers in matches, and it’s a joy to watch,” said the Italian.

The legendary manager clearly appreciates the dynamism Flick has injected into Barça’s play. From intense pressing to attacking fluidity, Flick has created a brand of football that excites fans.

Thoughts on the Copa del Rey final

Turning his focus to the much-anticipated Copa del Rey final, Capello did not hesitate to highlight just how crucial this match is for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“The fight will be tremendous,” he predicted.

“But Real Madrid needs to win because, at the moment, they are second in La Liga and have lost the Champions League. That’s why I think it will be a fundamental game for Real Madrid this season.”

In Capello’s eyes, the pressure is clearly on Real Madrid. With Barcelona revitalised under Flick and already showing signs of building for the future, a loss in the final could turn Madrid’s season into a disappointing one, especially without Champions League or La Liga glory.
