Noah Okafor joined Napoli on an initial loan deal in January but so far, he hasn’t impressed a whole lot with the Partenopei, leaving AC Milan with a dilemma.
Okafor started the season as the deputy for Rafael Leao, scoring an important goal in the first game against Torino. Aside from a couple of assists, however, that’s all he achieved during the first half of the season and Milan thus decided to send him out on loan in January.
Napoli came knocking, following Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s move to PSG, but one can certainly understand why the move frustrated Antonio Conte. In four appearances, albeit just 36 minutes, Okafor doesn’t have a goal or assist for his new side.
As reported by today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, a permanent move to Napoli now appears very unrealistic, especially since the buy-out clause is set at €23.5m. It’s a sizeable amount for a player who has had many injuries, while also only really impressing as a super-sub.
With the Swiss international set to return, Milan will have to find a new solution in the summer as they have no intention of keeping the player. The transfer fee paid to RB Salzburg wasn’t so high, meaning a capital gain is very much possible, but the market value has certainly decreased.
