Hansi Flick has revolutionised Barcelona since his arrival last summer, and he is now set to extend his stay at the club for at least another 12 months.

Flick was appointed as head coach of Barcelona following Xavi Hernandez’s sacking at the end of last season. There was a fair bit of controversy about the situation given that the club icon has committed to staying only weeks prior, but in hindsight, the decision is one that was well-made by president Joan Laporta and the board of directors.

Flick signed a two-year deal upon arrival in Catalonia, but in recent weeks, there has been talk of him already being offered the chance to agree an extension. And it appears that he has now done so.

As reported by MD, Barcelona and Flick have reached an agreement to extend his stay at the club by an additional season, with only minor details standing in the way of everything being finalised.

Flick, alongside his coaching staff, will receive a pay rise as part of this new contract, which will now be announced until the end of the season as Barcelona do not want to create any unnecessary off-field distractions in their bid to win a historic treble. The report also notes that everything in the negotiations should be wrapped up in the final couple of weeks in May.

There is no doubt that Flick extending his stay will be welcomed greatly among Barcelona supporters, although there could be some bemusement about the fact that he is only signing on for an additional 12 months. It appears that the reason for his is that the former Bayern Munich and Germany head coach is planning to retire from management in the summer of 2027, which is when his new contract will run until.
