It was a tough night for Eintracht Frankfurt and their fans: a penalty for Tottenham decided Frankfurt's fate in the competition, helping opponent Tottenham to knock them out of Europe.
Even though Frankfurt had many good chances in the 2nd half of the game, they were not able to turn the result around and in their favour - the final result after both matches is 1-2 to the Londoners.
Sport director Markus Krösche showed his disappointment, but also his pride in an interview after the loss:
(About the result of the night): It's simple, we just weren't able to score tonight. The penalty call was not necessary in my opinion. It's annoying to go behind in that way and than after that, we were just unlucky infront of goal.
(About Frankfurt being more nervous): Well, we have a young squad. We wanted to have a good start to the game, but made simple mistakes. We also had great chances though, which makes this defeat rather annoying.
(About the missed chances): We just weren't clinical enough and lacked efficiency. Tottenham defended well, too. I can't really blame my team too much to be honest.
(About the next few weeks): Augsburg will be a difficult opponent for us this weekend. I'm very proud of our young squad and our Europa League campaign, now it's time to look ahead and concentrate on the Bundesliga and securing Champions League football for next season.
