Portsmouth are among the clubs who have monitored Alan Sheehan after the fine work he has done at Swansea City.

Portsmouth are among the clubs who have kept tabs on Swansea City boss Alan Sheehan, although there’s no suggestion John Mousinho will leave Fratton Park.

The Swans made the decision to sack Luke Williams in February after a poor run of form, with Sheehan initially taking over on an interim basis.

After some impressive displays, it was then announced Sheehan would remain in charge for the rest of the campaign, and the positive results have continued, with Swansea currently on a five-game winning run.

Despite the impact he has made, Swansea still haven’t named Sheehan as their permanent head coach, and Wales Online have claimed that other clubs are monitoring the 38-year-old.

They state that Portsmouth are ‘among those who have admired his work over the past few weeks’, even if there is no intention to replace Mousinho right now as he has kept the south coast outfit in the Championship.

As well as that, they add that other ‘unnamed’ Championship clubs are keen on Sheehan, but it’s thought that the Irishman is open to staying at Swansea for the long-term if the chance arises.

Swansea City must sort managerial situation

Firstly, given the work that Mousinho has done at Portsmouth, it’s very surprising to see that they may be looking at other managers.

However, in today’s game, it’s normal for clubs to plan ahead, as Pompey, like all clubs, need to be in a position to react if they suddenly went on a poor run of form, or if Mousinho was poached, so they will always have a list of options for unexpected circumstances.

As for Sheehan, he will be attracting attention, because the work he has done with Swansea has been terrific.

Under his guidance, there has been a major upturn in the points they have collected, and they have done that through good organisation, which shows Sheehan is tactically astute.

Furthermore, several players seem to have responded to his methods, and are playing their best football of the season.

So, from Swansea’s perspective, it’s going to be hard not to give Sheehan the job, and perhaps this report will give them the nudge they need to get it finalised, as they now could risk losing him if they don’t act quickly.

But, the immediate priority for Sheehan will be finishing the season on a high, with Swansea making the trip to Millwall this weekend before they end the campaign with a home fixture against Oxford United.
