Inter Milan superstar Hakan Calhanoglu addressed the press after a scintillating Champions League success against Bayern Munich.

Speaking to Sky Sport via FCInterNews, the standout playmaker explained Inter’s approach tonight.

Though Inter stunned Bayern 2-1 in the first leg at the Allianz Arena, everyone knew it was only the first half.

Indeed, overcoming such a formidable rival required Inter’s undivided attention in both quarter-final legs.

Luckily, Simone Inzaghi prepared the match perfectly, even though Harry Kane’s opener suggested otherwise.

However, Bayern’s celebrations were short-lived as Inter turned the game on its head in less than five minutes.

Yet, he turned down the Bavarians’ advances to pledge his loyalty to Inter, which now proved a decisive choice.

“A beautiful evening, definitely with a lot of suffering,” Calhanoglu admitted.

“We were already prepared to suffer, we knew Bayern would cause us problems.

“After going behind, we reacted. After the 2-1, we defended, but we believed in it and we’re happy.”

Then, he thanked the Nerazzurri fans for showing support to the team throughout a long campaign.

“On the pitch, we control the tempo. We play 90 minutes every three days and it’s not easy.

“Our fans helped us so much, we must always believe because we have the quality to hurt our opponents.”

Finally, Calhanoglu explained Inter’s tactical choices.

“We tried to press Kimmich higher to stop him playing,” he said. “But Müller was always behind me and I had to help Acerbi.

“Müller always makes dangerous movements, we had to be careful in that situation.”
