Italy made an embarrassing collective error to concede the second goal against Germany in the Nations League quarter-final, turning their backs on a corner to argue with each other.

The Azzurri were already 1-0 down in Dortmund this evening, 3-1 on aggregate, after Joshua Kimmich converted a penalty.

Gianluigi Donnarumma had made a flying fingertip save to push the Tim Kleindienst header over the bar, after which the goalkeeper and several of his teammates started debating who had allowed that opportunity and why.

While this was happening, Germany continued to play, as Joshua Kimmich took the corner quickly and found Jamal Musiala ready to tap into the totally empty net from inside the six-yard box.

Donnarumma and the other Italy players barely even realised what was happening by the time the ball was already in the net.

This goal was allowed to stand, because the corner kick is considered like a throw-in or a goal kick, so there is no offside in these situations.
