Jadon Sancho has urged his representatives to pursue a return to Borussia Dortmund regardless of where he ends up after his loan with Chelsea comes to an end.

Chelsea have an obligation to sign Sancho permanently this summer but can break that clause by paying a penalty fee of £5m to send him back to parent club Manchester United, who have no desire to welcome the winger back into the fold.

Whether Chelsea plan to walk away from Sancho is unclear but his underwhelming form - two goals and four assists in 23 Premier League games this season - means the Blues are by no means guaranteed to follow through with a permanent deal which would cost close to £25m.

BILD report on Sancho's stance on the subject and state that, whether he remains with Chelsea or returns to United, he has his heart set on a reunion with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

It was with Dortmund that Sancho emerged as one of Europe's top wingers, sparking a £73m move to United in 2021 which co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirmed the Red Devils are still paying off to this day.

Sancho is said to have informed his agents of his desire to return to Dortmund or at least the Bundesliga, where Bayer Leverkusen have also been tipped to pursue a summer deal.

A primary issue with a return to Dortmund would be the cost of any such transfer. BVB are enduring a miserable domestic campaign which is almost certainly set to end without Champions League qualification, which will impact their transfer dealings and prioritise sales to make up for the lost income.

Funds to sign Sancho could be raised, however, through the sale of winger Jamie Gittens, who is valued at around £80m and is of interest to both Chelsea and United, alongside Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
