Serie A heavyweights Juventus have devised a new strategy to sign sought-after Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali. Per Tuttosport via Calciomercato, the record-time Italian champions are considering offering Dusan Vlahovic as a bargaining chip to bring the ex-Milan star back to his homeland.
Tonali joined the Magpies in an eye-watering €70 million deal in the summer of 2023. Despite his nine-month suspension for breaching betting rules, the 24-year-old remains crucial to Eddie Howe’s set-up, hence Newcastle’s reluctance to sell their star.
However, Tonali reportedly feels homesick and would favor a return to Serie A in the coming months. Inter and Milan have emerged as potential candidates to fulfill his wish. Yet, Juventus have moved at the head of the queue as they look to offer Vlahovic in exchange.
Newcastle won’t let Tonali go for cheap. But they may accept this proposition, especially if Alexander Isak was to leave St James’ Park in the summer. Followed by several top Premier League clubs, Isak could part with the Magpies, giving Juventus a chance to strike.
Isak’s departure would leave a massive gap in attack, and Vlahovic could fill it, with Juventus hoping Newcastle would agree to what may be a deal of the summer. Vlahovic is no longer indispensable in Turin, while his contract runs out in 2026.
Therefore, Juventus must address the Serbia international’s future on short notice. Offering him in this swap deal makes perfect sense, considering players like Tonali are rare species in today’s football.
