The two-week hiatus from club football does not imply any rest for many players, especially in a team like Real Madrid where several names in the dressing room are regulars for their national team.

For such internationals in Europe, they will play in the UEFA Nations League over the coming two weeks and the draw has some fascinating clashes in store.

While Italy take on Germany, Spain face stiff competition against The Netherlands. The game between France and Croatia, needless to say, will be one of the highlights as it will serve as a re-run of the 2018 FIFA World Cup final.

Mbappe praises Modric

Speaking to the media ahead of France’s clash against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League quarterfinal, Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe faced the media and spoke about several topics.

One of the primary topics of discussion, unsurprisingly, was the Croatia NT captain Luka Modric who continues to dazzle at the ripe age of 39.

Needless to say, Mbappe had nothing but praise for his club-level teammate who has etched himself in history as one of the greatest midfielders of all time.

“Luka Modric is one of the best of all time. He’s not gonna play for 20 more years, so we have to enjoy him every day, every game,” he began saying (h/t Madrid Xtra).

On facing the veteran in the Nations League over two legs in the coming weeks, Mbappe said,

“Yeah, we laughed and teased each other, it’s a pleasure to see him again.”

“But he’s an important player, so we need to stay focused and careful – the objective is to win,” he added.

Finally, the Frenchman stated that Modric was far from done in terms of his footballing level and that he was a leader in the team.

“Luka Modric is still at the best level, at the top, at the best club in the world. He’s the captain, he’s OUR captain.”

Lastly, he also stated that he would take advice from the veteran midfielder on how to win Ballon d’Or. “What I’m going to do is ask him how to win a Ballon d’Or and he’ll tell me.”
