Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that Bayern Munich are the favourites against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

The 1982 World Cup winner gave an honest assessment of the Nerazzurri’s chances in an interview in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Inter Milan know who they will face in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Nerazzurri will take on German giants Bayern Munich.

Inter booked their place in the quarterfinals with an aggregate win over Feyenoord in the round of sixteen.

Meanwhile, Bayern overcame domestic rivals Bayer Leverkusen in their own tie.

The Bavarians will certainly be among the most formidable opposition Inter face all season.

Bayern Munich have been in imperious form domestically. And while there have been one or two stumbles in Europe, their dominant performance against Leverkusen across two legs underlined their quality.

Bergomi Admits: “Bayern Munich Favourites Over Inter Milan In Champions League”

Legendary former Inter Milan captain Beppe Bergomi was clear. “Let’s not hide it,” he said. “Inter are not favourites against Bayern.”

“Kompany has players who are very good in one-on-one situations,” he noted.

“They can cause problems for the Nerazzurri.”

Bergomi noted that “Feyenoord tried to do the same thing with pacey players. Look at Osman in the first leg, or Sliti on Tuesday.”

“Inter are a physically strong team,” the former defender said. “But in open space, against players like that, they tend to suffer a lot.”

“And Bayern have plenty of them: Musiala, Sane, Coman.”

“Another disadvantage for Inter is their situation in the league. Bayern have an eight-point gap over Leverkusen at the top.”

“In the two matches before the tie against Inter, they will play the reserves,” Bergomi anticipated.

“Inter on the other hand can’t afford to do so.”

“They’ll have to think about the league,” Bergomi said of Inter’s fierce title race against the likes of Napoli and Atalanta.

“In any event I expect a lot from the strikers: Lautaro and Thuram.”

Bergomi argued that “to break down a tough, physical defense like that of Bayern, they need goals, and Inter have plenty of them.”

“Then, focus on Mkhitaryan and Calhanoglu. The weapon that Inzaghi has has always been the style of play.”

“They will need courage and ambition to go and play their game in possession against the Bavarians,” Bergomi said. “In their faces, in their own stadium.”

“That’s the secret to beating them. Get out of the pressure and control the game.”
