Paris Saint-Germain took a short-term approach last year by sending Xavi Simons back to RB Leipzig on loan. Now, things are more settled—Simons has officially joined Leipzig on a permanent deal.
That might actually work out in PSG’s favor. A new report has raised questions about Simons’ attitude during his loan spell, which could’ve caused problems had he returned. Paris did include a sell-on clause in the deal, though off-field concerns could impact how valuable that turns out to be.
According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United could have the edge over Manchester City in the race to sign Simons next summer.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move is official. Leipzig paid €80 million in total, including add-ons, with an upfront fee of €55 million. Simons is now under contract through June 2027—but with several clubs keeping a close eye, there’s no guarantee he’ll see that deal out.

PSG will monitor Leipzig’s sale price for the midfielder, but a sale might not happen this summer.
“I’m still a young player, I have many dreams – and the club knows that,” Simons said. “But right now, the most important thing for me is to play well in the upcoming games. Then we have the international matches, and after that we’ll sit down and see what happens.”
Manchester United have been strongly linked with Simons recently, but insider Duncan Castles recently stated Liverpool could be in the mix to sign him.
“I’m also told that Liverpool have asked questions about the player, and again, you look at the style of his play, and you could see why he would be a fit to the way Liverpool play,” Castles said on the Transfers Podcast.
“So top-level clubs, at least in terms of budget – I don’t think we can call Manchester United a top-level club in terms of performance anymore – and again, summer after summer, Simons is the focus.
“But I think everything is set up for a sale this summer, if they can convince one of those clubs to come in and spend the money that Leipzig want for him.”
