Manchester United boss Marc Skinner issued an update on Anna Sandberg and Celin Bizet following the side’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.
United dominated the match, taking a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time thanks to an Elisabeth Terland brace and a stunning long-range lob from Grace Clinton.
Leah Galton added a fourth, moments after the interval, getting on the end of a perfect low-cross from substitute Melvine Malard.
The result kept United in third place with 39 points—eight behind league leaders Chelsea and level with second-placed Arsenal, separated only by goal difference.
United need just three wins from their final five WSL fixtures to secure a top-three finish, guaranteeing a place in next season’s Champions League.
The only negative from the win at Villa Park was injuries sustained by Sandberg and Bizet. George was withdrawn during the interval after picking up a yellow card.
Sandberg replaced George, but the Swedish left-back lasted only 21 minutes before being forced off with an injury. Meanwhile, Bizet was substituted after a reckless challenge from Danielle Turner, which sparked outrage among United’s players and technical staff.
There was a lengthy pause as medical personnel attended to Bizet.
Skinner told MUTV after the final whistle, “She wasn’t injured. Gabby’s fine, she’s healthy.”
“Anna was a hamstring [problem], I think. I don’t know, I’ve got to check that.”
“I don’t know how [Bizet] is yet. She is upset. Dan Turner is not malicious at all. I was angry but not at her. It was the protection of my player but we also didn’t get an advantage. It was a red-card challenge.”
He concluded, “I hope Bizet’s okay. If she reacts like that, it’s clearly not good. It was dangerous play and it should be a red card.”
United are back in action on Sunday when they host Everton at Leigh Sports Village.
