Manchester United Injury Update: Boosts for Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven as Season Run-In Begins

Ruben Amorim finds himself at a pivotal juncture in his first season at Manchester United. The club’s injury-riddled campaign may finally be turning a corner, with signs of recovery arriving just as the fixtures pile up. Heading into a demanding April, United prepare for a run that will shape their season across three competitions. Crucially, it seems that some key figures, including Amad Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo and Ayden Heaven, are nearing a return.

As the team regathers after the international break, momentum matters. Amorim, tasked with navigating United through the final months of the campaign, could be handed unexpected reinforcements at just the right moment.

Positive Signs from Carrington Aead of Hectic April

Manchester United’s squad depth has been severely tested in recent months. Before the break, the club were consistently without double-digit numbers due to injury. But five senior players returned to training at Carrington on Friday, a welcome boost as United gear up for a daunting stretch that includes a Manchester derby, a Europa League quarter-final against Lyon, and away clashes with Newcastle and Bournemouth.

With Amorim afforded a rare breather due to United’s absence from the FA Cup quarter-finals, his players were granted valuable rest. Now, focus turns to Tuesday’s trip to face high-flying Nottingham Forest at the City Ground — and with it, the possibility of several names returning to the matchday squad.

Amad Diallo’s Recovery Ahead of Schedule

Amad Diallo has emerged as one of the breakout performers of Amorim’s early tenure. The Ivorian winger, whose season was feared to be over following an ankle ligament injury in training last month, now looks set to make an earlier-than-expected return.

Initial assessments suggested a lengthy layoff, but Diallo’s recovery has been encouraging. Amorim has already hinted at a comeback before the campaign ends, and journalist Fabrizio Romano recently reported the 21-year-old is ahead of schedule. While caution remains the watchword, there’s growing optimism that Diallo could feature in May — a potential game-changer for United’s end-of-season ambitions.

“There is a real chance he will be back in action in May.”

With his energy and creativity from wide positions, Diallo has become indispensable in Amorim’s transitional system. His return could offer United not only depth but a genuine match-winner for the crucial fixtures ahead.

Potential return date: May

Kobbie Mainoo nearing comeback after muscle injury

Kobbie Mainoo has been absent since the FA Cup win over Leicester on 7 February due to a muscle injury. The England international was initially expected to be out for six weeks, but signs of his return have been steadily positive.

Mainoo is now back in individual training and working on the grass at Carrington. Amorim confirmed that the 19-year-old is “almost ready” in Monday’s press conference, offering hope he could return during April.

“Almost ready,” Amorim said of Mainoo’s fitness.

The midfielder’s dynamism, intelligence and calmness in possession have been missed. If fully fit, he could slot straight back into the heart of United’s midfield during their most demanding period.

Potential return date: April

Ayden Heaven’s Injury not as Bad as Feared

Eighteen-year-old Ayden Heaven, a January signing from Arsenal, had stepped up impressively during United’s injury crisis. His maturity on the ball and tactical discipline earned him appearances against Fulham, Arsenal and Real Sociedad. However, his progress was abruptly halted after he suffered a foot injury in the 3-0 win at Leicester.

Amorim had suggested early on that the nature of the injury was unclear, but the subsequent diagnosis was more reassuring. Heaven left the stadium in a protective boot but without crutches, and now the club believe he will return this season.

“It was not so serious. He is recovering, not ready to play, but he will return this season for sure.”

His recovery adds valuable depth in defensive positions, and his development under Amorim could yet yield more minutes before the season is out.

Potential return date: April

More Returns on the Horizon

While much focus has understandably fallen on the trio of Diallo, Mainoo and Heaven, Amorim was also buoyed by the return to training of Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton — all of whom could be available for selection against Nottingham Forest.

Luke Shaw is also making gradual progress, although Amorim confirmed he remains on a tailored programme. “We are building Luke,” the manager said, reiterating that there will be no shortcuts in his recovery.

Lisandro Martínez and Jonny Evans remain long-term absentees, with the Argentine out until the summer of 2025 and Evans still recovering from a persistent back issue.

Opportunity and Urgency Align for Amorim’s United

As Ruben Amorim prepares for a crunch period, Manchester United may finally be emerging from their injury malaise. The potential return of key players such as Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo, combined with squad reinforcements across the pitch, could shape how this season ends — and perhaps how the next one begins.

United have struggled for rhythm amid the injury chaos, but reinforcements at this stage of the season offer something more than fitness. They bring belief. For Amorim, that might be just as important.
