Manchester United are hatching plans to sign RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons and lead the race for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, according to the Daily Mail.
Simons has caught United’s attention after recording ten goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Man United manager Ruben Amorim sees Simons as perfect for his system. However, signing the playmaker will depend on Champions League qualification.
Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also shown interest in the former Paris Saint-Germain starlet. Leipzig value him at around €80 million.
Simons has been tipped for great things since his early days, and United want to take the punt on him. The Premier League giants have kept contact with the former La Masia academy star.
However, it is unclear if he will be willing to step into the cauldron at Old Trafford when he can find a more stable environment.
Man United are also leading the race to sign Delap. If the Tractor Boys suffer relegation, the striker is expected to move this summer.
Delap also has interest from other Premier League suitors, but it appears United are at the front of the queue. The England international has bagged 12 goals in 31 Premier League appearances.
While Delap is a talented forward, it is worrying that United have not learnt lessons from the Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee signings.
United need an experienced striker who can deliver 20 league goals and north of that figure across all competitions.
Man United need a lethal striker who can spearhead the club back to the top of the Premier League table, and it is hard to envisage that happening with Delap leading their line.
