Manchester City fan network group City Matters held a meeting with officials to discuss the club’s ticketing policies last week.

Frustration amongst the match-going section of Manchester City’s fanbase has been growing this season as the club continues to prioritise the third-party sale of home tickets after announcing their recent partnership with ticketing platform Viagogo.

Viagogo are City’s ninth third-party resale ticketing partner and the deal saw Manchester City fans protest against the club’s ticketing policies prior to their 2-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League last week.

City fans attending the win at the Etihad Stadium, which saw Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush score in a comfortable victory, were encouraged to stay on the concourse and not take their seats until after the ninth minute of the game – as a sign of protest against the club.

A consortium of City fan groups have recently written an open letter to club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak to express their joint frustration at the club repeatedly looking down upon regular match-goers and season ticket holders.

Several incidents at the Etihad Stadium this season have raised questions over City’s ticketing policies and the safety of home supporters in the stadium, with many Real Madrid fans allotted seats in the home end in the opening leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie.

There were further eyebrows raised when a Liverpool fan seated in the home end was at the end of violent uproar from a number of Manchester City fans, which saw the former escorted out of the stand by stewards.

In a statement posted on Twitter, fan network City Matters have announced they held a meeting with the club on the latter’s ticketing policy last week. It was also revealed that a follow-up meeting is scheduled for the second week of April.

Manchester City’s regular match attendees will be hopeful that the club can crack down on unofficial third-party ticket sellers and more importantly – away fans seated in the home end – as has increasingly been the case this season.

Rising ticket prices and the lessening number of season ticket holders on offer have been high amongst City fans’ complaints with the club over the last few years – and the aforementioned issues have had a detrimental effect on the atmosphere at home games this season.
