Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle is attracting interest from Sheffield United as the promotion race picks up steam in the EFL Championship, as per a new report.

The 23-year-old bid farewell to boyhood side Manchester City last summer after a successful loan spell with Wolves in the 2023-24 campaign, which saw the Wanderers sign the Manchester-born midfielder on a permanent deal.

Doyle spent the 2022-23 campaign on loan at Sheffield United and the Englishman has gotten solid first-team experience under his belt in recent years after a route to the Manchester City first-team looked rather unlikely.

City signed Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United in the summer of 2022 and added Mateo Kovacic and Matheus Nunes to their star-studded midfield the following year, though the upcoming transfer window is almost certain to see Phillips be sold.

Doyle made seven first-team appearances for Manchester City before joining Wolves and after another a frustrating campaign at the Molineux, the summer could open up a list of options for the midfielder as clubs nearing promotion to the English top-flight look to recruit.

As reported by Ryan Taylor writing for the Daily Star, Wolves boss Vitor Pereira will hold talks over Doyle’s future at the end of the season and could see the midfielder leave amid interest from a long list of clubs, including Sheffield United.

It is understood that any deal would be contingent on suitor clubs successfully earning promotion to the Premier League, with it being increasingly likely that Doyle leaves Wolves in the summer after struggling to kick on from a promising season under former manager Gary O’Neil.

Manchester City are understood to hold a 50 percent sell-on clause in Doyle’s current contract at Wolves and the 2023 treble winners also hold a buy-back option, whilst it remains unlikely that Guardiola will look to call upon Doyle in the summer.
