The 29-year-old, who has played over 50 matches for club and country this season, has confirmed he will leave Leverkusen when his contract expires at the end of June. His availability has drawn interest from several European giants, including Bayern München, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.
United are exploring the possibility of bringing Tah to Old Trafford as part of their efforts to bolster their defensive line ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. With Ruben Amorim's side seeking to bounce back from a disappointing season, Tah’s experience and leadership could prove a valuable addition.
Bayern München, who previously attempted to sign Tah last summer, remain keen on keeping the defender in the Bundesliga. Meanwhile, Real Madrid may hold a potential advantage due to the expected appointment of current Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso, someone Tah has worked closely with and reportedly shares a strong rapport.
Barcelona, while also monitoring the situation, could struggle to make a competitive offer due to ongoing financial restrictions that have previously hindered player registrations. The club’s salary cap issues have caused delays in past signings, such as with Dani Olmo, casting doubt over their ability to finalise a deal for Tah.
Speaking after Leverkusen’s 1-1 draw with St. Pauli on April 20, Tah publicly confirmed his plans to depart, though he has not committed to a decision on his next destination.
“There’s no exact timeline,” Tah said. “The club knows my intentions, and nothing has changed in that regard.”
Having been eligible to negotiate with clubs outside Germany since January, Tah’s next move will likely be influenced by both competitive ambitions and personal connections, making this one of the more intriguing free-agent sagas of the summer.
