There was a huge expectation to find out which team would win the fifth derby in the Italian capital this season, but AC Milan took no notice of their opponents Inter and thrashed them 3-0 in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals. As a result, the Rossoneros should end the season with a title, as they will go into the game as favorites against the winner of the match between Bologna and Empoli.

The possibility of winning three titles this season wasn't enough for Simone Inzaghi to avoid preserving some of his key players due to the heavy schedule this season, with a derby against Roma at the weekend and the start of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals against Barcelona next week.

Even so, Inter dominated the attacking action in the first half, with Lautaro Martínez and Taremi through the middle and constant arrivals from Dimarco and Darmian on both sides of the attack. Milan were eventually caught out and saw their rivals create several chances, but Inter lacked the efficiency to convert their dominance into goals in the first half. In the best chance of the game, Darmian came face-to-face with Maignan, but missed the target. Dimarco.

Withstanding the opposing pressure, Milan tried to surprise with counter-attacks led by Rafa Leao, and they took advantage of a single well-timed opportunity to open the scoring before the break. Álex Jiménez broke free on the right and crossed into the area, where Luka Jovic beat his marker and rose free to finish.

Inter tried to press forward again at the start of the second half, but ended up creating fewer chances due to physical tiredness and a lack of effectiveness. Milan, on the other hand, reduced the pressure they were under and created more danger, maintaining the efficiency of the first half. Luka Jovic took advantage of a mistake by Josep Martinez and extended the Rossoneri's lead just after the break. Finally, Rafa Leão provided a precise pass for Tijjani Reijnders to score.

Milan will have no easy task in Coppa Italia final

Bologna are set to face AC Milan in the Coppa Italia decider after beating Empoli 3-0 in the first leg of the semi-finals. If this is the decision, we'll have a great clash in the decider of one of the most exciting tournaments in European soccer this season, and Milan's chance to establish themselves as one of Italy's major forces.
