Estevao Willian will arrive at Chelsea this summer, but he’s come in for criticism from the media for his most recent performance.

The Blues agreed a deal with Palmeiras for the 17-year-old last summer worth up to £51.4m, and Estevao will link up with his new team-mates after the Club World Cup this summer.

Chelsea are said to view the teenager as a generational talent, and he’s already broken records set by Neymar in the Brazilian league.

Estevao criticised for latest performance

Estevao recently revealed he’s very anxious to get to Chelsea, and the expectation is he’ll go straight into the first team squad to compete for minutes.

The youngster, who turns 18 in April is already a full Brazil international, but despite being called up for the March International break he didn’t feature against Colombia or Argentina.

Estevao was back in action on Friday night for Palmeiras against Corinthians in the second leg of the Paulista Championship with his team trailing 1-0 from the first leg.

The game was a fiery affair, with three red cards but it ultimately finished goalless, with Estevao coming in for criticism for his performance.

“Estevao – 5/10,” Globo wrote.

“He dreamed of scoring his first goal in a derby, but his performance was poor due to the team’s lack of creativity.

“He still tried his classic runs down the wing, but he saw little space and almost no passing options nearby.”

Players can’t perform to a high level every time they step onto the pitch and having bad performances is part of the learning process, especially for younger players.

Estevao has a brilliant record with Palmeiras having scored 20 goals and provided ten assists in 60 appearances at just 17-years-old.

Chelsea clearly have a top talent on their hands, but it’s important they provide Estevao with the right environment to thrive in, and don’t put too much pressure and expectation on him from day one.
