After being left out of the Aston Villa starting lineup for both legs of their dramatic Champions League tie with PSG, Ollie Watkins was handed a start today against Newcastle.
He needed to make an impact, and did almost from the kick off.
The England striker needed just 33 seconds to break the deadlock, seeing his shot take a major deflection off Fabian Schär and past a helpless Nick Pope.
It was the first time in four years that the Villains scored inside the opening minute of a league game, while it was even longer ago that the Magpies were caught out so quickly. That both came against Manchester City is just one of those coincidences that seem to happen so often in football.
In a game that could prove so crucial in the race to qualify for Europe, the Villains have an early hero.
