While striker targets have come and gone across the Premier League, one name has been mentioned almost daily for 18 months.

Sporting striker Vikyor Gyokeres just can’t stop scoring in Portugal, so the rumours never go away. Right now it’s Arsenal who look heavy favourites to land the Swede, with Manchester United and Chelsea falling behind in the race to sign him.

Ben Jacobs today Tweeted that Sporting “are planning for a summer exit,” with their demands for the gunman dropping from €100m to €70m, a similar price to the one put on the head of Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. Sesko is younger, but much less prolific in his career so far. Both present really interesting options, and we expect to be pitching up somewhere in the Premier League in the next 18 months, if not much sooner.

Gyokeres took good an option for Chelsea to ignore

Right now there is no doubt that Arsenal are favourites, and the sudden upswell of articles saying just that either indicate interest on their part of his part to encourage a deal.

But despite the falling price it’s not an easy deal to do, and we would expect Chelsea to be tracking things the whole way to see if an opportunity opens up for them to try and land the striker if Arsenal stumble.

He may not be the dream fit for the club’s model of signing only young, rising stars, but he’s too ruthless in front of goal to ignore. They’ve waited two years for the perfect player who ticks every singe box to come around and been left empty handed. Eventually they’ll have to accept that someone who just ticks most of the boxes is a pretty good option, especially at €70m
