Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is reportedly heading towards an exit at the end of the season, according to The Telegraph. The club suffered yet another Premier League defeat this season as they lost 2-1 to Nottingham Forest on Monday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The North London side currently sits 16th in the table.

Postecoglou’s team, who have registered 18 losses this season in the league, are on course to surpass their club record of 19 defeats in a Premier League campaign. However, they can still salvage their season by winning the Europa League and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Regardless of how the Europa League campaign unfolds, Postecoglou is likely to leave Tottenham at the end of the season due to the issues the club has faced throughout the year as per reports. Spurs face Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in the semi-finals of the Europa League, and the report suggests the Australian could be sacked if his side fails to progress or loses in the final against either Athletic Bilbao or Manchester United.

Lifting the trophy and maintaining his record of winning silverware in his second season at clubs would allow Postecoglou to depart with his head held high, having delivered on his promises of changing the team’s playing style and achieving success.

After their quarter-final win over Eintracht Frankfurt, Postecoglou admitted he has “no idea” whether he will remain as head coach beyond the end of the season, speaking last Thursday.

Postecoglou would become Tottenham’s first trophy-winning manager since Juande Ramos in 2008 if he were to succeed in the Europa League. Irrespective of how things end at the London club, Postecoglou will have no shortage of suitors if he wishes to sign for another club ahead of the 2025–26 season.

However, everything could change if Tottenham wins the Europa League and the optimism and mood around the club improves. But as seen with Manchester United last season, Erik ten Hag looked close to being sacked before winning the FA Cup against Manchester City, a success that prompted the club to extend his contract, only to sack him before the end of the following season. Tottenham, too, sacked Ramos just eight months after the Spaniard had guided them to League Cup success.
