There is a chance that Paris Saint-Germain could wrap up the title this weekend when they face AS Saint-Étienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.
It’s a league title that would rest on several permutations with PSG needing to win, while Olympique de Marseille would have to lose at Stade de Reims, and OGC Nice and AS Monaco would have to draw in the Derby de la Côte d’Azur. If this all lines up then PSG will be celebrating a record-breaking 13th Ligue 1 trophy without any of their fans present.
Following a decree from the Loire prefecture, citing “the risk of public order disturbances linked to the antagonism between supporters of the two teams,” PSG fans have been banned from travelling to the game on Saturday evening.
This news comes in the context of a worsening relationship between the French government and the French National Supporters Association, following the proposal from the French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau to disband three historic supporter associations at Les Verts and FC Nantes.
