Real Madrid’s lack of depth at centre-back has been a talking point for several months now, especially after Eder Militao’s season-ending injury weeks after returning from an ACL tear.

Anyway, the club has faught despite the lack of resources and has done well under Carlo Ancelotti’s tutelage, but it is clear that a lot must change before next season.

A new signing in the department is thus on the cards and Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is one of the top names on Los Blancos’ list.

Real Madrid target speaks

The young centre-back is currently on duty for the Spanish national team and even made his debut last night after an injury to Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi.

Speaking to the media, via MARCA, after the game, Huijsen was asked if he would like to don the special white jersey of Real Madrid and the player did provide signals that he was tempted by the opportunity.

“Would I like to play for Real Madrid? I’m only thinking about ending the season well, then when the time comes, we’ll see.”

“The truth is, it’s an honour when such a big club is interested in me,” he added without hesitation.

While indeed the player’s green light will go a long way in ensuring the transfer goes through, it will ultimately come down to the financial aspect of the deal where the cards currently are in Real Madrid’s favour.

Huijsen’s current deal in the Premier League runs until 2030, but he reportedly has a release clause that could see him leave for a fee of close to €60 million.

That number is indeed high for a young and untapped defensive talent, but Real Madrid see it to be acceptable given their current situation in the centre-back department.
