Yesterday good news emerged for Manchester City. Rodri and Erling Haaland were both pictured training with their teammates ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League fixture against Wolves. Rodri has been out since September after sustaining an ACL injury in September. Erling Haaland has been out for four weeks due to an ankle he suffered against Bournemouth in Manchester City’s FA Cup quarter-final win at the Vitality Stadium.
While it is good news that the pair are back training Pep Guardiola has told the media today during his pre-game press conference ahead of City’s clash with Wolves that Manchester City are taking a cautious approach with the returns of Rodri and Erling Haaland.
With Erling Haaland back in training, Pep Guardiola was asked if City’s top scorer could play tomorrow night against Wolves. The Manchester City manager explained that it is unlikely that Haaland will return at the Etihad tomorrow night. When asked about Haaland’s chances of playing tomorrow night Guardiola told the media: “He’s getting better… I don’t think [he will be involved vs Wolves].”
Pep Guardiola also explained that he is relying on medical advice in regards to Rodri’s return to the pitch. He is waiting for Manchester City’s medical department’s approval before Rodri returns to the pitch. Guardiola explained: “We are really pleased Erling is back and Rodri is back in the training sessions. The moment the physio and doctor say that Rodri can start to play minutes and after that, he will start to play minutes. But the doctors have to tell me. It was a difficult injury. It was seven months to eleven months, more or less, the doctors said.”
“He feels really good, every day he’s making sessions and sessions but we have to make the step to avoid making a step backwards and being injured again.”
It is good news for Manchester City that Rodri and Erling Haaland are back in training. But it is an understandable move that City are playing it safe with their return from injury. Both players are crucial to Pep Guardiola’s side and the end of the 24/25 season is near. In the case of Rodri, Manchester City will need him fit and firing for next season. But in the case of Erling Haaland he could possibly return next weekend against Southampton provided he has no setbacks over the next week.
