Roma have decided to not proceed with Gian Piero Gasperini as the leading candidate for the capital club’s coaching vacancy.
After preliminary discussions took place between the Atalanta boss and the Giallorossi, a decision was made to focus on other candidates instead.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Gasperini is said to have set very strict conditions to accept Roma’s proposal, asking for a total revolution of the squad.
The plan included the sacrifice of several big names, including Pellegrini, Dybala, Paredes, Dovbyk and Hummels, to lower the average age and build a younger group and “compatible” with his style of play.
A request that would not have convinced the club and that would have pushed Roma to change course.
With Gasperini now out of the game, the hottest name becomes that of Stefano Pioli, leaving Milan.
The former Rossoneri coach could be the right man to lead Roma without revolutionizing the current squad.
