An early Eldor Shomurodov goal set up by Matias Soulé was enough for Roma to see off Verona and resume the push for European qualification.
The Giallorossi wanted to keep their 16-game unbeaten run going, but had slowed down recently with 1-1 draws against Juventus and rivals Lazio. Paulo Dybala and Saud Abdulhamid were still out of action, with Artem Dovbyk not at 100 per cent. Hellas missed Casper Tengstedt and Aboud Harroui, while Tomas Suslov and Cheikh Niasse were only fit for the bench.
It was a bright start from Hellas, as Amine Sarr and Jackson Tchatchoua sprinted at defenders to create chances, but Roma took the lead when Bryan Cristante’s cross-field pass was controlled by Matias Soule, who shrugged off Nicolas Valentini and chipped the on-rushing goalkeeper for Shomurodov to bundle over the line from point-blank range.

Soule tested Lorenzo Montipó at the near post when cutting inside Domagoj Bradaric, while Daniel Mosquera scuffed the finish at Mile Svilar from a promising position, then had a header deflected for a corner.
After the restart, Mosquera shrugged off Gianluca Mancini to surge forward and his curler was deflected just wide, while Tommaso Baldanzi’s right-foot finish flashed off target at the other end.
Dovbyk came on and immediately threatened a goal, gathering from Manu Kone with his back to goal, turning on a sixpence to drill inches wide of the near post.
