As FC Barcelona continues to plan for the future, they have to take into account their current squad first. Only by assessing their team’s strength and weaknesses can the club’s sporting sector make good decisions. However, what comes first for Barcelona is to take a good look within.

By doing that, the club can easily isolate and highlight the players who still need to have their futures sorted. While the club has done a good job so far in securing the contract renewals of some of their most important players, it is clear to see that other cases still need to be looked at.

Recently, however, Mundo Deportivo has managed to highlight six players in particular who still need to have their futures sorted out at Barcelona. While some of these players seem to be on a positive track when it comes to their potential continuity at the club, others remain in a position of uncertainty.

Wojciech Szczesny, for instance, is one of the six players highlighted in the report and has a contract that expires at the end of the season. The veteran goalkeeper initially only joined the club as an emergency signing, and it was expected to be only for one season. Instead, he has already convinced Hansi Flick on a sporting level and seems to have more to offer as well.

For that reason, it now seems likely that his contract with the club could be renewed. The player has even publicly confessed that he is not opposed to the idea of renewing with Barcelona and that he is more than comfortable at the club.

Another player whose pending future was brought up was Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong. Despite initially having an uncertain future when it came to his potential continuity at the club, it now seems likely that a renewal could be agreed upon if all involved parties can agree on the terms and only then can an extension beyond 2026 be considered feasible.

However, the case of Spanish goalkeeper Inaki Pena is completely different, even with his contract expiring in 2026. With Wojciech Szczesny’s potential renewal now looking likely, it has led to Inaki Pena reconsidering his future at Barcelona and could now even be on his way out in the near future.

Eric Garcia is another player whose future still remains uncertain. The Spaniard has managed to stay at Barcelona this season since Hansi Flick seems to value his versatility and ability to help out in various positions, but there is still a sense of uncertainty about his future beyond this season. He currently has a contract until 2026.

Similarly, Pablo Torre also has a contract that expires in 2026 but his future at Barcelona remains uncertain. With barely any playing time this season, it is easy to see that the player is not exactly a team regular. However, Barça could reportedly offer him a renewal if he agrees to going on another loan spell to gain experience and play more.

Additionally, Danish defender Andreas Christensen still has an unclear future at Barcelona beyond 2026. Now expected to leave considering the competition when it comes to the centre-back position, his injuries have not exactly helped his case if he wanted to continue fighting for a place at the club.
