Three key Inter players in Lataro Martinez, Denzel Dumfries and Piotr Zielinski were all unavailable to Simone Inzaghi during Friday’s training session ahead of the visit from Udinese this weekend, but there is a chance that Nicola Zalewski earns his fourth league appearance for the Nerazzurri.
The return of Serie A action awaits this weekend, following a two-week break for the recent round of international fixtures. Inter still lead the league table with a three-point advantage over Napoli, but will likely need a victory over Udinese if they are to keep a buffer between themselves and their closest competitors.
The international break wasn’t particularly kind to Inzaghi, as both Lautaro and Dumfries withdrew from their respective national teams before their first fixtures of the break. Zielinski has not recovered yet from his recent calf injury either.
Lautaro is reportedly targeting a return to action against rivals Milan in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final on Wednesday, if not against Parma in Serie A next weekend. Dumfries, meanwhile, could be back in time for the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich on April 8.
With Dumfries out, there is a chance for Matteo Darmian to start at wing-back, although Zalewski is also in line to return to the squad. Either Mehdi Taremi, Marko Arnuatovic or Joaquin Correa will replace Lautaro up front.
