The 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup has already given us historic comebacks and career games. But none of that really prepares us for what is going to take place at BC Place in Vancouver. One team, Inter Miami, full of talent, undefeated in MLS and riding high on the Messi train. The other, the Vancouver Whitecaps, the most well-rounded team in the league thus far, with a defense as rock-solid, as efficient an attack, and as sound a back line.

The silent behemoth that is the Vancouver Whitecaps

You blinked when the season started and you might have missed it: Vancouver sits atop the Supporters' Shield table and, at the same time, the league's most lethal attack and one of its most formidable defenses to get past. That's no small feat. This is not a squad that screams for headlines, but one that succeeds where most wouldn't even look. The Canadians took out Saprissa, Monterrey and Pumas and didn’t fold. They held their ground. The ‘Caps defense is pure numbers: fewer shots allowed, lower expected goals conceded, more clean sheets than anyone else. It’s a clinic in organization, not flash. But hey, who said only flashy teams make it to the final?

The thing about being the favorite is you’ve gotta prove it

Inter Miami comes into this semifinal with the weight of being America's sweetheart. And rightfully so. Messi, Suárez, Busquets. A squad that appears built to sell and to dominate. But that story is only true if the game allows it. In the case of LAFC, Miami felt the agony of being ripped apart at the back. They were trailing on aggregate and had to battle back. And battle back they did. But there's one question that just keeps echoing in our minds… what if the opposition doesn't crack under pressure? Vancouver Whitecaps don't wear a big badge. They do, however, possess chemistry, a coach who delivers and players like Brian White who find the back of the net.

He's not making front pages and turning heads like some, but he's one of the top scorers in the Concacaf Champions Cup and shows up when it counts. Meanwhile, Messi is Messi. And that in itself can flip a game on its head with one touch. But football enjoys turning the script around.
