Barcelona snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat as they pulled off a stunning 4-3 comeback win over Celta Vigo today at Montjuic.
The Blaugrana were two goals down with a little under half an hour left to play at their home and mounted a spirited comeback.
Dani Olmo first made it 3-2 for the La Liga leaders before Raphinha scored the equalising goal. Deep into stoppage time, the comeback was complete as the Catalans were awarded a penalty by the referee which Raphinha tucked away to win it for his team.
The final moments of the game were very tense as both teams pushed hard in search of the winning goal.
Indeed, leading up to the penalty being awarded, tensions flared in the Barça dugout as the team’s goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente lost his cool when the spot-kick was initially not awarded after the foul on Olmo.
The Spaniard was on the receiving end of a challenge from Celta Vigo’s Yoel Lago but the referee did not point to the spot immediately, sparking a furious reaction from De la Fuente, who ended up smashing an iPad to the ground on the touchline.
Ultimately, though, the referee was asked to consult the pitchside monitors by the VAR and the official ended up awarding the penalty which Raphinha converted expertly.
The victory means Barcelona are now seven points clear of Real Madrid, who will be in action on Sunday night against Athletic Club.
