Gavi started 2025 on a promising note, making a strong return to action after recovering from a lengthy injury layoff.
His performances were energetic and effective, much to the relief of Barcelona fans who had feared his absence would hurt the team’s midfield dynamism.
However, in recent weeks, Gavi’s game time has gradually decreased, which has led to concerns about his fitness and form.
Those fears were accentuated yesterday when Gavi was caught speaking to Hansi Flick after the Atletico Madrid win, with the midfielder pointing to his knee, suggesting potential discomfort.
After the final whistle, Flick approached the bench to congratulate his players and exchanged a brief conversation with Gavi, as captured and reported by Catalunya Radio.
The midfielder, however, seemed to gesture towards his operated knee—something that has now fueled speculation about a potential relapse.
Reports suggest that Gavi experienced discomfort during the warm-up session, prompting Flick to keep him on the bench as a precaution.
The concern surrounding Gavi’s condition is compounded by the fact that Barcelona are already grappling with injury issues in the squad.
Dani Olmo’s recurring muscle injuries have hindered his ability to maintain regularity, making Gavi’s availability even more crucial as the Catalans eye silverware in the final stretch of the season.
That said, the Catalans are hopeful about having Olmo return to action before the second-leg Champions League quarterfinal encounter with Borussia Dortmund, later this month.
