Inter returned to the training pitch on Friday following their 3-0 defeat by rivals Milan in the second leg of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night, as Simone Inzaghi and his team shift their focus back to the Serie A title race ahead of their visit from Roma on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri had their dreams of an historic treble shut down after being knocked out by Milan in a 4-1 aggregate scoreline in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, which included a 3-0 loss in their home tie against the Rossoneri on Wednesday.

Inter are still on top of the Serie A table with five games left to go, but they are currently level on points with Napoli. The title will be decided by a play-off if there are two teams level on points at the top after 38 matches.

How Inzaghi motivated Inter squad after Milan loss

Despite losing 3-0 to Milan, in what La Gazzetta dello Sport described as the team’s worst 90 minutes this season, Inzaghi still afforded his squad a full day off on Thursday to recover. The Nerazzurri will host the division’s form side, Roma, on Sunday, and will then travel to Barcelona for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final taking place on Wednesday.

The team reported as usual for training on Friday, which began at around 11.45 local time.

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Inzaghi gathered his players in the centre-circle of the training pitch for a team talk at the beginning of Friday’s session.

The coach reportedly raised his voice at the squad in an attempt to motivate them for the run-in, and made his players aware that they require greater levels of concentration if they are to win the Serie A title and progress past Barcelona in the Champions League.

In a boost for the Serie A leaders, Piotr Zielinski and Denzel Dumfries both returned to training on Friday and are in contention to feature against Roma on Sunday.

Pre-match reports suggest that Marko Arnautovic is the leading candidate to partner Lautaro Martinez in attack, as Marcus Thuram remains out. The Frenchman is targeting a return against Barcelona on Wednesday.
