Women’s international friendlies included Australia beating South Korea with an own-goal, Canada overcoming Argentina and ten-player Haiti defeating Chile.
Australia edged South Korea 1-0 with a 54th-minute goal, in front of a crowd in excess of 37.000 at the Sydney Football Stadium.
Caitlin Foord won the ball back and found Emily van Egmond, whose cross brought an own-goal off the head of Lim Seon-joo.
It was a much needed result for the Matildas, after a poor showing at the SheBelieves Cup and consequent fall in the World Ranking.
Canada were 3-0 winners over Argentina, Jade Rose with the first goal for Casey Stoney’s side after Vanessa Gilles’ header came back off the bar.
Adriana Leon set up the second goal before half time, Nichelle Prince netting at the second attempt after Solana Pereyra saved the initial effort.
Julia Grosso got a late third on the rebound from a Janine Sonis shot that hit the post.
Haiti won 1-0 away to Chile despite being down to ten players for most of the match. Melchie Dumornay converted a penalty but Kethna Louis was sent off before the break.
