AC Milan and Inter played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final tie, meaning the return game will decide everything.

Both goals came in the second half, with the first being scored by Tammy Abraham in the 47th minute after a lovely turn and finish, before Hakan Calhanoglu hammered in a shot from distance to level things.

The return game in three weeks becomes pretty much a one-off fixture given they will start from level pegging, though the Rossoneri will feel like it was a missed opportunity in their ‘home’ game having taken the lead. Below are the key statistics from the game.

The main numbers

There is certainly a lot of blue on the board when it comes to the major statistics. Inter were ahead on possession (63%), Expected Goals (1.55 to 0.86), total shots (18 to 12), shots on target (7 to 4) and corners (also 7 to 4).

However, that doesn’t feel like a reflection of how the game was mostly balanced, and perhaps what shows that is how Milan had three big chances to the Nerazzurri’s two.

Derby firsts

Milan and Inter have drawn two matches in a row for the first time since the 2016-17 season (both Serie A matches ended 2-2).

The Diavolo are unbeaten in four consecutive matches against Inter in all competitions (2W, 2D) for only the second time in the last 31 seasons (since 1994-95) – after a series of 10 recorded between 2002 and 2005 (7W, 3D).

Moreover, Milan and Inter have drawn all three Coppa Italia semi-finals with the Rossoneri as the home team – 1-1 in 1985 and 0-0 in 2022 previously.

In addition, Inter’s run of five consecutive wins in all competitions while scoring at least two goals per game has come to an end.

Sergio and Tammy

Sérgio Conceição is the second Milan coach since the early 2000s to remain unbeaten in all of his first three Milan derbies against the Nerazzurri in all competitions (1W, 2D), after Massimiliano Allegri (W3 between 2010 and 2011).

Tammy Abraham has scored four goals in the Coppa Italia this season and is the first player to bag this many with Milan in the tournament in the last 20 seasons.

The English striker has scored in two of the four matches he’s played against Inter with AC Milan, after not having participated in any goals in his four matches against the Nerazzurri with Roma.
