Arsenal are one of several clubs considering an approach to sign Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku this summer.
Nkunku has struggled to win a regular role at Chelsea and is exploring his options ahead of the summer transfer window.
The France international was dropped from the squad for last weekend’s win at Fulham, before returning as an unused substitute against Everton on Saturday. Head coach Enzo Maresca called the former omission a ‘technical decision’.
Nkunku has struggled for fitness and favour since arriving at Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023. After injuries decimated his debut season, the 27-year-old has started just nine league games in 2024/25.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United have been credited as admirers, while French outlet RMC Sport claim Arsenal are keeping tabs on Nkunku’s situation. Arsenal weighed up a move for the forward in January and remain interested as Mikel Arteta looks to add depth to his forward line.
Nkunku scored 58 goals in his final two seasons at RB Leipzig and was the joint-leading scorer in the Bundesliga in 2022/23. He has netted 14 times in all competitions for Chelsea this season, though the bulk of his return has come in the Europa Conference League.
Arsenal have utilised Mikel Merino as an auxiliary forward in recent weeks after Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz were struck down with long-term injuries.
Nkunku’s ability to operate across the forward line appeals to the Gunners. Despite their London rivalry, Arsenal and Chelsea have conducted several transfer deals in recent windows. Jorginho and Havertz are among the players to have left Stamford Bridge for Arsenal.
